Effect of Surface Roughness on the Surface Texturing of 316 l Stainless Steel by Nanosecond Pulsed Laser

Abstract Stainless steel 316L is an austenitic alloy that widely used in varying industries due to its outstanding corrosion resistance, high strength, and ductility properties. However, the wear friction resistance properties are low. Laser surface texturing can improve of material via functionalisation surface. The laser efficiency texture quality defined by material’s parameters. roughness important property having effect on texturing. This paper reports a study influence stainless with 1064 nm nanosecond pulsed laser. Single pulse shots were employed avoid topographic previous shots. shape topography textures assessed using optical microscopy profilometry. It was observed produced dimples U-type sombrero-like type geometries depending energy. overall better for smoother surfaces. energy fluence necessary generate lower surfaces than roughness. at 24 average best creating deep textures. ablation mechanisms associated energy, including plasma shielding, energies 100 roughness, compared other samples.
